Our table group began to ideate using a newly introduced design thinking method called 'brain writing'. A similar process to brain storming, we were given paper divided into twelve sections with the task of writing ideas down on them. 6 group members, 2 ideas each, with 3 minutes to bash them out before passing the paper to the next group member. This method proved to be an enjoyable collaborative excercise, which was incredibly refreshing due to our usual ideate design thinking methods becoming increasingly tedious.

This variation on our usual ideate method proved incredibly useful. It was a quicker, more effective and more enjoyable way to generate concepts, and the discussion generated during the process proved just as useful as the design method itself. It was during this collaborative effort that I became drawn to the idea of using lighting as a way to promote security and enhance wayfinding. With several of our selected 'red dot' ideas being related to lighting, I began to look further into this area, beginning with quick-fire concept sketches.
