Semester 2: Table construction

Due to being flat out making my final model, its been a while since I've posted anything! I've managed to make two tables so far.....one was a frustrating failure that resulted in me having to shoot down to Hamilton again to grab another sheet! After laminating my table back together, I didn't notice a subtle kink in the fibreglass that I must have put there when i pulled the top sheet off. When it dried, it ended up with a significant bow in it. Despite jumping on it, it wouldn't straighten, which I guess is a testament to its strength! I've machined up another one, which is razor straight thankfully.

I also printed a prototype leg insert, which was surprisingly spot on first try! I'll make a slight 1.5mm adjustment to the height, but other than that, I'll leave it as is. Tomorrow, I'm heading to a wood turners guild to turn up my table legs. While I'm making decent progress, I can't help but feel the legs are too close together. A small mishap with my CAD file meant the legs are 5mm closer together each side....not a huge amount, but enough to make it look, in my eyes, slightly cramped and top heavy. I should have pushed the legs out towards the corners a wee bit more. I'd made an exact replica on solidworks, and it looked perfectly laid out then, but in person its a bit off I feel. Ah well......it's too late to change it now, so I'll just live with it!
