I sketched out a plan view of my proposed design to judge a suitable size or scale. After a few different sizes, I settled on a 125mm square shape, with rounded edges. I constructed a quick model of it out of cardboard to see how it appears on a table top. I feel that at this size, it will be large enough to provide a visual feature to the sparse table top, but also provide a durable anchor to attach the legs to the table. From here, I'll CAD model one, get it 3D printed, and then test it to see if it works as anticipated.
