I began further developing my concept by sketching out potential forms for my design. I researched available photo-voltaic panels as I will be limited by their available sizes and constrained to simple geometric shapes.

I had a hard time judging a form based on sketches alone, so I constructed multiple cardboard prototypes. Being able to see shapes in a 3D format proved vital in making a decision. I constructed 'boxes' with a varying number of sides, and settled on a pentagonal shape. Having five sides not only provides ample exposure to the suns rays to aid in charging, but is also reminiscent of the Victorian era gas lamps found along Dominion Road in the early 20th century. This was an unintentional, but nonetheless interesting development. It could prove to be a valuable insight, and may offer an opportunity to develop a retro-modern street light that will fit in with Dominion Roads both modern and vintage architecture.
