AM: Do they even want chairs?

While carrying on with knowledge gathering, I found an article on a low price cardboard backpack that folds into a desk. An interesting product for sure, but it raised a question: do children in developing nations even need, or want chairs? I had based my chair / desk combo off of the western standard schooling set up, assuming that although lacking funding, schools in developing nations at least aspire to replicate a western classroom. I had failed to realise that in many societies, sitting on the floor is commonplace, whether its learning, eating or socialising.
Thinking in a completely different direction, are standing desks worth considering? The perils of sitting for 6 or more hours a day are well documented. Not only is it incredibly unhealthy, it does nothing to promote concentration or productivity. My research has revealed a startling insight: not only do children struggle to attend school in developing nations, but the kids that ARE at school aren't learning at an acceptable level. Could standing desks combat this issue?
