AM: Scale model

After several rounds of concept sketches and prototype models, I started narrowing in on a form that I liked. I decided to incorporate an entire sheet of Omnipanel as my desk top in order to reduce waste 100%. This meant including the rounded edges, which I was initially against. I made a scale model to test the ergonomics of my design. While completely unrefined, I was able to get a good visualisation of my design which will allow me to make further tweaks and developments.

I looked at examples of flat pack furniture on the internet, and looked at ways they were joined. I settled upon the method detailed here as it is simple, but robust.

The further along I got with my model, the more issues I discovered, especially regarding the exposed edges of the fibreglass Omnipanel. The edges, having been cut on the CNC machine, are somewhat sharp and prone to flaking. I intend to round the edges off, but this will only be achievable on one side without complicating the fabrication process. There is also the issue of the blue foam core; it is both unsightly and prone to being picked at by school children. I have two potential solutions: edge banding or placing wood in place of foam in key areas before CNCing.
