AM: A stool instead of a chair....

Following some sketching and model making, I decided I was going to stick to my guns regarding my chair design. Using a full panel in order to keep material wastage to a minimum was going to result in an incredibly heavy and ungainly chair. I decided to carry on with my chosen chair concept. But discussion with my lecturer led me in a different direction.

He asked me to consider a simple stool....something I had previously considered but discarded as I considered it too basic. But rethinking the concept led me to view it a different light. With my furniture aimed at younger children, who are physically active and aren't lacking in energy, I could consider a stool. As they are likely to spend a decent amount of time standing around their group desk engaging with other students during their learning, seat time will be reduced, meaning that a back rest inherent to a traditional chair design would be rendered obsolete. It also meant that I'd be able to make more economic use of the Omnipanel, fulfilling Action Manufacturing's wishes of a further reduction in waste.
Moving away from the fairly complex chair design will also mean I can reemploy my wooden insert feature. As they chair was a complex shape, making a wooden insert would be hugely difficult, and just wouldn't be feasible. Now I'm reverting to a stool, I'm able to once again use the wooden insert idea for the stool base, and a wood veneer for the legs.
